For Those Fluent in Potty Mouth

Back in the day hearing the use of profanities would appal right-thinking members of society. But nowadays, swear words are practically mother’s milk to many of us. But what is becoming the norm in adult life is rubbing off on our children to have a negative effect.

According to a survey of 663 Australian parents, 10% of their children are swearing every day and nearly half of these children are learning to swear from their parents. As they grow up, friends take over where the parents left off.

FACT: Swearing gets more popular with age, with 80% of children eight and over using bad language

It isn’t surprising that kids are picking up these choice words so easily, more than 40% of parents admit to swearing every day. Although it is believed that children only swear to be funny or playful, and parents should take responsibility of this, more than 90% of parents worry about swearing.

FACT: Swearing is considered unacceptable by 99% of parents

Almost all parents agree that swearing should be disciplined, and some of these solutions are swear jars, withdrawing privileges and explaining the effect of swearing. But by far, the most simple measure here, is to eliminate swearing from your vocabulary so there is one less resource that your children are learning it from.

And that’s where this month’s challenge was created for Progue, and it’s quite simple. Just don’t swear. And if we do swear at least once then it’s a gold coin donation to the kitty. We are predicting that the kitty is going to be really healthy after this month!
